Guide Right Induction Ceremony and Rite of Passage
Guide Right Induction Ceremony and Rite of Passage On Saturday, November 13th, the Abington-Ambler (PA) Alumni Chapter hosted an Induction Ceremony and Rite of Passage for its Kappa Akademy students. The program was held at DSQ Photo Studio in Glenside, PA. 19 Kappa Leaguers and 9 Kappa Akademy students were inducted. The students arrived early in the day for a photoshoot with the photographer/studio owner and Brother, Darnell Barnes. The event officially began with a student procession to the song “Boys to Men” by New Edition. After the welcome by Guide Right Director Cheyney Sparks, an evocation was given by Brother Elijah Golden. There was also an inspiring musical rendition of Donny Hathaway’s ”Someday We’ll All Be Free” song by Kamal Bostic-Smith. Our Keynote Speaker was tech entrepreneur Brother Markevis Gideon who inspired the young men to aim high and work hard to achieve their dreams. The Kappa Akademy Right of passage included a ceremonial tying of the ties, assisted by a male family member or brother from the chapter. The Kappa League induction ceremony followed, with the lighting of the candles and the taking of the oath. After the ceremony, there was a salute to the Guide Right mothers who were all presented with roses from their sons. It was the perfect ending and many of the mothers were in tears.
